During the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for food delivery from apps like DoorDash and UberEats skyrocketed. But as app profits surged, the workers themselves saw none of the windfall. In New York City, these workers suffer from a litany of issues, including inconsistent pay, lack of access to bathrooms, and rising rates of e-bike thefts and assaults. In response, delivery workers banded together to form "Los Deliveristas Unidos,” using their collective strength to demand accountability and protections from the apps, the city, and their customers alike.
